"I
highly recommend Leading through Artful Facilitation to people ready and
committed
to take
the next step in becoming the effective leader they can be, whether
leading from the front or from the middle."
Processes,
procedures, protocols, systems and models are important for leaders and facilitators
to know
and understand. Highly effective facilitation, though, is an art – and unique
to the
individual
who is the practitioner. It is leadership in action. Those who are most effective at
leadership
and facilitation don’t
follow a routine or prescription – they
follow their intuition
and judgment,
relying on their
understanding of self,
people, and groups to respond to the
dynamics before
them. They
choose tools
from an array of options rather than following a
script or reacting
with “what the book says”.
Leading and facilitating
in this way is fun, exciting, and gratifying – because it is a creative
process
that is new
every time you find yourself working with people... even if it’s people
with whom
you’ve
worked for years.
Some comments from previous sessions
of LAF.
Leading through Artful Facilitation is designed for those
with the inclination to practice
leadership through the
art of facilitation.
Whether novice or
experienced, participants will
learn about:
 |
Themselves – how their
style and behaviors contribute and get in the way of
effective leadership and facilitation; |
 |
Others – how to recognize
and engage with other personality/communication/interaction
styles; what
motivates people in general and how to recognize real-time dynamics that
are
specific to one individual at one specific moment; |
 |
Group dynamics – what are
normal and predictable phases that groups go through; how
are teams similar and
unique; and how to work with both phases and collective
(group) personalities; and
|
 |
Conflict – recognizing it early and how to assist people
through it constructively. |
"I
have been to many leadership classes and this was by far the best."
Each participant receives:
 |
Ideas and coaching
about blending the above components into unique, effective, and
artful leadership and facilitation. |
 |
A Personal Strengths Profile. The PSP is a personality profiling instrument that provides
significant information about
style-based communication and behaviors. Participants find it
useful for both understanding their own styles as well as
providing better insight into
leading
and facilitating others.

Organizational benefits: In addition to the leadership development and
increased facilitation skills
of the participant, organizations will benefit
from more effective and efficient meetings,
improved
clarity and
effectiveness in making decisions, and more productive working relationships.
All of
these translate into a solid return on an investment in this workshop.
Leading through Artful Facilitation is a six-day course
split into two sessions.
The first (three-day) session
focuses on
understanding
and using conceptual models such as those
referenced above. The purpose
of the
“break” is to provide time for participants to practice what
they’ve learned... it is practicing concepts that leads to skill
development.
Approximately six
weeks
later, the second session is devoted to review and
discussion
of participants’ experiences, the
opportunity
to ask “what do I do
when.... ?”, and then practice some
more. The result is a combination
of
experience
and
a deeper understanding of the models and concepts
in “real life”.
Leading through Artful Facilitation is a collaboration between
Elaine Twigg Cornett and
Zane Cornett.
Elaine and
Zane are known across the country as highly effective and fun facilitators – as
well as
exceptional coaches and trainers in leadership, teaming, ethics, and
collaboration.
"Time with you helps participants to discover what others already see; that
we're already leaders
who need little more than the subtle nudges that LAF offers
people to make their own profoundly
meaningful realizations. I have surprised myself
with how subtle changes in my behavior and word
choice have really diffused conflict
between people, helping each side get what they want and in
some cases feel better
about what they're not getting. It's great stuff. Thank you."
